Must be used with a coil with an internal resistor or else an external ballast resistor must be used.Coil 40511 is compatible.This distributor is not used with fuel injection..

Original for 1974 Federal Beetles, but will fit as a replacement on all upright engines 13/15/1600 1966-1974 with 30PICT-3, 34PICT-3/4 or H30/31PICT Brosol Carburetors.
Not for use with 30PICT-1/2 Carburetors.
Timing is 7.5 degrees BEFORE Top Dead Center with Vacuum Hose disconnected and plugged at idle.

In an electronic ignition system all of the spark plug firing
is directed electronically. There are no moving parts in an
electronic ignigion system, so nothing to wear out. The
fuel and air mixture is ignited optimally so starting is more
reliable in an electonic ignition system. Plugs last longer.
Wear out of points, which results in decrease in "dwell"
period, is no longer a problem when you install electronic
ignition.However: to guard against the small possibility
of a system failure (rare with our electronic ignition) which
would kill the car, we do recommend carrying a set of
points and a condenser.

The electronic ignition helps improve fuel economy with a better spark for smoother acceleration. An added bonus is the hassle of replacing the points and condenser periodically is no longer necessary. Points and condensers haven't been offered in automobiles for decades as electronic ignitions simply work better. The Ignition Components fit Bosch 0231178009 & 9230081094 centrifugal (or mechanical) advance distributors as well as the various aftermarket 009 style distributors in 1954 through 1977 Beetles, 1971 through 1979 Super Beetles, 1956 through 1974 Karmann Ghias, 1955 through 1971 Type 2 Bus models and 1973 through 1974 Things.
